Autism & Beyond is a groundbreaking new study of childhood mental health powered by Apple’s ResearchKit. The study aims to test new video technology that can analyze a child’s emotion and behavior.

We hope that this technology may one day be used to screen young children in their homes for autism and mental health challenges, such as anxiety or tantrums. We want parents to have tools that will help them understand their children and find help if they need it.

The reason we are doing this research is that the early years matter. The foundations of life-long health, physical health and mental health are built in early childhood—infancy to the start of kindergarten.

Our team has expertise in autism and in early childhood mental health. We know that developmental and mental health challenges begin in the earliest years of life and impact children and their families.

We know that parents and other caregivers of children often cannot find the answers to two simple questions:

"When should I worry about my child's social or emotional development?"

"What should I do if I am worried?"

We aim to create tools that will help to answer these questions.

We believe that one of the ways to answer these questions is to create easily accessible and affordable mobile tools for early identification of developmental and mental health challenges, such as autism or anxiety disorders, in young children.

Our long-term vision is that all people who care for young children will have access to science-based tools and knowledge that will help them to support their child's development and enhance their family life.
